Fruit of the Poisonous Tree: Mass School Shootings in America

“Education is a weapon whose effects
depend on who holds it in his hand
and at whom it is aimed.”
– Joseph Stalin

This Friday a 17-year-old student from Santa Fe Highschool in Galveston County, Texas walked into class dressed in a trench coat and wielding a shotgun and pistol. He opened fire on fellow students and teachers leaving ten dead and several wounded. This attack comes just a short while after a mass shooting in Parkland, Florida that left seventeen dead. The nation is at a loss for answers. Many are calling for stricter gun control measures; others advocate more mental health screening. On the political right there are calls for arming teachers and placing armed security in schools. Yet the shootings keep coming. Everyone has a solution yet none are working.

One of the pressing questions that puzzles most people is: Why? The answer lies in the old legal doctrine “the fruit of the poisonous tree”. This legal metaphor deals with illicit evidence in a court trial. If a source of evidence or the evidence itself, the tree, is tainted with an illegality than anything gained from that source, the fruit, is tainted as well. This principle is equally true outside of a legal setting. Let us consider for a moment not the fruit of the poisonous tree but the tree itself. The source of the corrupt fruit.

Public education historically is a weapon for those that are in power. It is used to manipulate and change the cultural, religious, and moral aspects of a society to make it more adaptable to the agenda of the ruling class. Sometimes it has been used openly; as in the case of Nazi Germany, Communist Russia, or Fascist Italy. Most times it is used in a subtler manner. The moral values of parents, churches and communities are systematically undermined in public education. Humanism is extoled as the culmination of technology and science. Man is presented as an ever-evolving creature; reaching new heights of knowledge and progress. Nations and cultures of the past are presented as barbarian, out of touch, and generally much less advanced than modern man. Religion is scorned in the classroom as a delusion of the unenlightened. Darwinism and Evolution are taught as truth instead of fantasy. Using collective peer pressure and thousands of hours of yearly teaching, the public at large is transformed from one generation to the next through the systematic indoctrination of public education.

Yet the number one enemy of the Humanists has always been a singular foe. Many scholars point to religion as being the main opposition for secular humanism yet this is mostly incorrect. Humanism accommodates and in some cases aids and tolerates world religions. It celebrates their diversity and different traditions. Humanists themselves are fascinated with mysticism, spirits and extraterrestrial beings. It is not religion that is an enemy of Humanism, it is a religion: Christianity. From the beginning of time the God of the Bible has opposed all of the tenants, principles and dogmas of humanism. While the secularists claim man is his own supreme authority; God reserves all authority and sovereignty for himself; sharing it with none. While humanists postulate man is basically good and a product of his environment, the Bible states man is evil by nature. Humanism sees morality as relative to current cultural feelings; God wrote his law on stone and it has never changed. Christianity through history, and especially in the last five hundred years, has waged all-out war on humanism and its teachings. Until now.

In the last one hundred years the Christian church has suffered a steady and steep decline in its influence and hold over American culture. Less than fifty years ago a strong rejection of Christian morals took hold of the young people of the country and since then there has been an apocalyptic destruction of culture, morality and decency. This massive shift was and is aided and promoted by public education. Historic Christianity is despised and rejected. The Bible is hated and prohibited in public institutions. Yet the great and eternal obstacle of humanism is unmovable. The principles and decrees of the God of the Bible are unstoppable. Even though it seems like the secularists have their way the consequences of their destructive ideals are unavoidable.

A modern child or young person is a soul without purpose. He has been taught he is an animal. His emotions and desires govern him. His purpose in life does not exist since he is nothing more than an evolving animal. He is in a ever shifting society that changes like the waves of the sea. God is unknown to him. His addictions and failures are blamed on others or a mental issue. He reacts to the all surrounding confusion in random ways. Some decide that their life no longer matters; some decide that the lives of others do not matter. In a fit of despair, uncontrolled rage, or simply fantasy they take a weapon to a school and start shooting down fellow students and teachers.

School shootings, far from being the problem, are the fruit of the poisonous tree of humanism. The evil root that has taken control of every aspect of modern society is bringing forth the harvest. The result of all humanist societies in history has always been death. Massacres. Holocausts. Genocides. All the fruit of this cursed tree. Any student of history could have predicted that this would happen. Any honest scholar will admit it will happen again. It is one of the many terrible phenomena that will continue to appear as the country sinks deeper into depravity. While humanists can pretend the Bible is a lie, and they can pretend God does not exist, they cannot and will not avoid the horrible consequences of their actions. As Rudyard Kipling wrote so succinctly in his poem “The Gods of the Copybook headings” in the last stanza:

“And that after this is accomplished, and the brave new world begins
When all men are paid for existing and no man must pay for his sins,
As surely as Water will wet us, as surely as Fire will burn,
The Gods of the Copybook Headings with terror and slaughter return!”
